Oatsmobile

First look: New 12 oz. Oatsmobile can, shipping spring 2017

Oatsmobile is heading to the canning line in 2017! Beginning in the spring, our hop-forward American Pale Ale will transition away from bottles as existing packaging materials are used up. Twelve-ounce cans, packaged in six-packs, will ship to all areas we distribute to. “Dry-hopping gives this beer incredible aroma, and the oats lend a lighter, wonderful body. It’s accessible to a variety of tastes, but still unique” said Laura Bell, Bell’s Vice President and Co-owner. This new packaging will make it even more approachable since many places do not allow glass, especially outdoors. Oatsmobile uses a blend of classic and modern Pacific Northwest hops. Malted oats give this session beer body that is normally not found in other lower-ABV beers. Oatsmobile will be the sixth Bell’s beer to be offered exclusively in cans (and on draught). It was first brewed as Oat Ale in 2013 and later as Boiling Pot Pale Ale at our original brewery in Kalamazoo. It was released as Oatsmobile when it joined our year-round packaging lineup earlier this year. For more information and for updates, keep an eye on Bell’s website, bellsbeer.com, or join them on social media. Oatsmobile: Why use oats in a session Pale Ale? Aren't those just for stouts?

Oats can be used in a lot of different ways, not just with stouts, which is what most people associate with this incredibly versatile ingredient. The oats in Oatsmobile lend a lighter, wonderful body, We actually use two kinds of oats in our Session Pale Ale.  They keep the alcohol moderate and lend great body and flavor. Combined with bright and zippy characteristics from dry hopping, Oatsmobile is approachable, unique, aromatic and sessionable. Let John Mallett, our Director of Production, tell you more below. Also, what is an Oatsmobile? Where did they name come from anyway?

Make crispy onion rings with Oatsmobile

We love when people take our beer, bring it into the kitchen and cook. Jackie Dodd, the Beeroness, used our latest release Oatsmobile and made Crispy Oven Baked Beer Battered Onion Rings Here’s what she said about our session pale ale: It’s a damn good beer. One of the best sessions beers I’ve had this year (a session beer is a beer that has a lower alcohol content, generally below 5%). The oats give it a round, almost creamy flavor that balances the beautiful dry hopped finish. It kicks you a bit of a fruity, but not overly citrusy, flavor with just the right malt backbone and the perfect level of carbonation for a beer that I want to drink all summer Thanks, Jackie! View the recipe on the Beeroness’s website. If you have any recipes using our beer, we’d love to see them.

Oatsmobile, our dry hopped session Pale Ale, now available

Oatsmobile, our new dry-hopped session Pale Ale, is now shipping. Coming in at 4.3% ABV, Oatsmobile is perfect for any occasion. The blend of Equinox, Crystal, Mosaic and Glacier hops create a complex aroma that drives this beer. It can be described as having peach, mango, tropical and floral notes. The oats give the beer more body than most other session Pale Ales. Both naked oats and flaked oats are used to brew this beer. This is our first new year-round beer since 2010. This beer began in 2013 at our downtown Kalamazoo brewery as Oat Ale as a way to explore the use of oats in a pale beer. It then evolved into Boiling Pot, which added hop aromatics. Boiling Pot was a favorite on draught at the Eccentric Cafe and at special events and tappings.

Dry-hopped and brewed with oats, Bell’s new session Pale Ale will begin shipping in April

A brand new Bell's beer will debut in April - the first new addition to our year-round lineup since 2010. A hop-forward session Pale Ale brewed with oats, Oatsmobile Ale (4.3% ABV) will be available on draught and in 12 oz. bottles, packaged in six-packs, across our distribution footprint. Oatsmobile is dry-hopped with a blend of classic and modern Pacific Northwest hops for a pungent blend of stone fruit and tropical aromas. “This beer is unique. Aromatics may drive it, but the signature ingredient - oats - are what really makes this beer stand apart and also where the name comes from. It’s approachable and intriguing, with a fun personality,” said Bell’s Vice President, Laura Bell. “The use of malted oats help give it a body that you don’t see in most other session Pale Ales. Once we tweaked the recipe to combine the body from the oats with those powerful hop aromas, we thought it would make a great addition to our year-round portfolio,” she said. This Pale Ale was first brewed in 2013 to explore the use of oats in a Pale Ale at Bell’s original brewery in downtown Kalamazoo. Initially Oat Ale, it was renamed Boiling Pot Pale Ale when it was released as a limited specialty draught option in select markets. Oatsmobile launch events and additional details will be shared here and on our social media sites as details are finalized.
